Empowering Teams.Embracing Change)。
Pamela Soliman:When we were trying to decide what the theme of the meeting is,I think many of us from SGO come here to learn the latest treatments, new science, research,so that we can continue to offer the best care to our patients. But I think it’s more than just the science, which is why we included the other themes. We are a very small community of GYN oncologists and the annual meeting is a chance for us to all come to the same place and reconnect. We are hearing the latest science, but we’re also really coming back to connect with our community.
Pamela Soliman:We just finished the main opening plenary session. We had the opportunity for people to present five prospective trials that are really practice-changing.Two trials were focusing on platinum-resistant ovarian cancer and the new FDA approvals. Two on rare tumors—again, prospective randomized trials really helping us understand how to tackle rare tumors, like low-grade ovarian serous cancer. The fifth trial looked at endometrial cancer.I think just on day one,we’re really kind of seeing what the research is showing us and how we can improve patient care in the future.
Christine Walsh:Some of our other sessions that will be coming up in the meeting will really feature some novel agents, novel treatment combinations. We’ll be hearing a lot about antibody-drug conjugates. We’re going to have a session on GLP-1 antagonists. We’re going to have a session on artificial intelligence. We have some speakers who are going to address humor in healthcare and another speaker who really embodies the resilience of the patient population we take care of.There are very broad-ranging topics in our meeting.
Pamela Soliman:SGO really is kind of the community of gynecologic oncologists, the providers that are taking care of women with GYN cancers, not only one origination centered in the United States. We have a lot of collaborators on trials,a lot of late-breaking research that’s happening all over the world. We’re hoping that we have a big international presence. We recognize that travel is not always easy or possible for all our colleagues, which is why really wanted to improve the virtual platform.A lot of the science and things that are presented at SGO website to be available on-demand for people who couldn’t attend in person as well.
Christine Walsh:We certainly hope so.When we were putting together the program committee,we were very mindful about inviting and involving our international colleagues. We’re hoping that with future SGO meetings, this will continue to be the case. The joint session with KSGO and JSGO has been a session for the past few years at this meeting. As an organization,SGO would be open to gynecologic oncology societies from other countries to hold their own sessions if there is a will.
Pamela Soliman:That’s a great question. And I think the sky is the limit. In my mind, when I think about how AI can impact us as physicians or as providers,I think that it can impact our day-to-day—like,how do we take care of patients? How do we be more efficient so that we can actually spend more time actually taking care of patients instead of kind of the paperwork and things like that.I think there’s a huge clinical impact with sort of how images are getting read, how information is shared—both kind of within a team but then also between different providers at different institutions. And then I think there’s also an unlimited research impact. So how can we take large datasets of patients with kind of to really understand outcomes in a more comprehensive way?
Christine Walsh:We had a session earlier today in one of our master classes where there were some speakers addressing how AI can be used to improve our operational efficiencies. And then we will have another session later in the meeting,a workshop that is fully dedicated to that topic.
